Dip Belt Reviews

The weighted dip is a great exercise that can build up your pecs, triceps and shoulder strength quick. The only problem is that you need to be able to comfortably and safely handle a lot of weight to get the best benefits from your dips. Years ago I lucked out and found an independent sporting goods store that sold me a quality leather dip belt. It worked perfectly for years until I lost it during a move across the country. I figured I could just get another one easily and start my workouts with weighted dips again. Much to my dismay, I couldn’t find any kind of dip belt anywhere in the major city I’m in right now. I went to the major sporting goods stores and even a couple of independent stores but I couldn’t find one anywhere. I asked workers everywhere I went and most gave a blank stare when they heard dip belt, some would point me towards the weight belts and a few knew what they were but didn’t know where I could find one.

At this point I knew I was just wasting gas and I had to turn to the internet to find any kind of dip belt. After searching around for a while, I found many options but after some research I discovered that there were some bad dips belts not worth the money and some that just weren’t up to the heavy use that I needed. After looking through many different belts and trying a few here is my summary of the reviews:

Altus Nylon Dip Belt

The Altus Nylon Dip Belt is the best dip belt if you’re on a budget or don’t plan on using a lot of weight. It’s very minimalistic but reasonably comfortable. The chain is very short so don’t get this if you plan on doing heavy weighted dips or chins. Read More

Harbinger Polypro Dip Belt

The Harbinger Polypro belt is constructed out of a very durable material but the short chain makes this piece of equipment limited in the weight it can handle. It is decent for a simple dip belt but you can find a cheaper dip belt for basic uses. Read More

Shihan Leather Dip Belt

The Shihan Leather Dip Belt is a top quality dipping belt and the best buy among the belts out there. The leather is quality material, the chain is long enough for almost all lifters plus it comes with a carabiner to connect the chain so it’s easy to load and unload. Read More

APT Professional Grade Dip Belt

The APT Dip Belt is a very good quality belt. The leather is sturdy and the chain is strong while being long enough for most trainers. The only drawback with this belt is the locking connection with the chain can be a hassle to close and open when you’re trying to load & unload the weight. Read More

Grizzly Fitness Nylon Dipping Belt

The Grizzly Fitness Nylon Dip Belt is very popular but it is limited because of its short chain. Plus the non-leather belts can’t hold too much weight because they fold into your skin when there is too much load added. However, this belt does have good padding and is very comfortable for lower weights. Read More

 Harbinger Leather Dip Belt

Stay away from the Harbinger Leather Dip Belt. It has leather material and a good chain but many people complain about breaking rivets. It’s best to avoid this one since it could be very dangerous if the rivets pop out unexpectedly when you have weight loaded. Read More

It’s important to invest in a good dip belt if you’re making progress with weighted dips or chins. A good quality belt will ensure safe exercise and allow you to focus on your lifts without worrying about the load on the belt. Cheap homemade options are usually painful with heavier weights and can break causing injury. If you decide on a quality homemade option, the materials alone will cost as much as one of the better belts listed above so it’s not really a practical option unless you want to customize chain length or the shape of the belt. Holding a dumbbell between your legs is another option but that gets very uncomfortable for me and when I went to heavier weights, the dumbbell would slip off and fall to the ground before I could finish the set.  Once again, investing in a quality dip belt is a good choice. Even if your gym carries a dip belt, it could get lost or be in use when you need it, wrecking your planned workout.
